BETAGIST: Tinsel makes history, celebrates 2,000th episode

Tinsel, the longest running TV series in Nigeria, has made history by airing its 2,000th episode on Thursday.
This makes the M-Net/Africa Magic series the first Nigerian television show to achieve such a feat.
The series, produced by Darien Amos for M-Net/Africa Magic, is a soap opera which began airing in August 2008.
“This Thursday marks a special one in the history of flagship Africa Magic soapie, Tinsel,” said a statement by African Magic.
“The award-winning show has reached its 2000th episode, an incredible feat by any measure. And the milestone couldn’t have come at a better time. Just over two weeks ago, the cast and crew of Tinsel walked away with an Africa Magic Viewers Choice Award in the MNet Special Recognition category.
“Africa Magic would like to congratulate everyone involved in the continued success of the show and here’s to hopefully 2,000 more episodes.”
Tinsel’s plot revolves around two rival film companies: Reel Studios, founded by Fred Ade-Williams played by Victor Olaitan, and Odyssey Pictures, headed by Brenda “Nana” Mensah played by Funmilola Aofiyebi-Raimi.
The show’s 1,000th episode was aired on May 23, 2013, and for nine years it has continued to introduce talented actors to its Nigerian audience.
Tinsel won its first Africa Magic Viewers Choice Award at the 2017 edition, where it earned the Best M-Net original drama series.
